The London Weekend

Friday 5th - Sunday 7th March

One more question…

We have one last question for you all this week (for now!). Thank you again to everyone who has been contributing! It’s been really interesting and helpful to learn more about our readers so we can make TLW better and better.

Artzine has really gone all-out for this their 5th birthday party and you’re invited! Explore the projects and stories accumulated over five years of Artizine workshops, join a fun workshop where you can learn how to make your own zine, listen to a dynamic panel discussion about the transformative power of community arts, see performances by spoken-word artists and enjoy some tasty vegan cake and drinks. There’s even a temporary tattoo station and party bags!

Date: Friday, 5th April, 6:30pm - 10pm

Price: £5 (donation)

Hear me out. This museum is only open for 3 hours per month, which makes it illusive, which makes me want to visit. This collection of (mostly functional!) sewing machines, is the personal collection of sewing machine salesman Ray Rushton. Sewing machines are the family business and you can even visit the recreation of his father’s sewing machine shop that operated in London.

On display are dozens, if not hundreds of sewing machines including one which belonged to the firstborn daughter of Queen Victoria as well as one of the first sewing machines ever to be made, dating back to 1829!

Date: Saturday, 6th April, 2pm - 5pm

Price: Free

I can’t say how pleased I am to see a music/ club night starting at a reasonable hour. The Book Club will be hosting special guest DJs for this night of throwbacks and bops from the likes of Eminem, 50 Cent, Nelly, Jay - Z, Beyonce, Outkast, Black Eyed Peas as well as recent hits of the same vibe.

Date: Saturday, 6th April, 9pm - 3am

Price: £5.50

Fleet Street and the surrounding areas have been a hub for the printing and publishing trades as far back as 1500. On this 2-hour walking tour, you’ll see iconic 20th century newspaper buildings, uncover the locations of the three prisons in this area and even spot the pub where Dickens, Johnson, Conan Doyle, Wodehouse and Twain drank.

Date: Saturday, 6th April, 11am
